Poor misguided bastards. I kind of get it when it's people who are 2nd or 3rd generation descendants of people who have emigrated; they've likely grown up listening to stories of 'home' from parents/grandparents and (understandably IMO) feel they have a connection to the UK or want to find out more about where their families came from. I got stuck at “que” and knew that wasn’t right. I suppose the Scottish version of this is the stereotypical American/Canadian tourist who comes here expecting to see an intact clan system, claymores being part of everyday dress, and assuming that Scots all live in bothies with outdoor cludgies. As I understand it, you call all Americans, in general, “Yankees” or “yanks.” We, absolutely, do not. And then there's the arguments I've had with people trying to tell me the slang they've learnt is widespread in England, as if only a teenager in Ohio knows that 'blimey hell' exists and someone from Britain can't possibly know without doing the research.
