We were just starting out and our goal at that time was to reach 1,000 girls all across the country. I think these efforts say a lot about their commitment to diversity, and I honestly wish that more organizations would make the same effort.
How did learning to code change your life? Black Girls Code was founded in 2011 with the goal of training 1 million girls by 2040. “I’m really excited to see what the future holds,” she told Brown. After school clubs for 3rd-12th grade girls to explore coding in a fun & friendly environment, 2-week summer programs for rising 10-12th grade girls to learn coding & gain exposure to tech jobs, College programs to help our alumni succeed and build community with other women in tech. “I think that’s amazing because that brings in a whole new realm of diversity, not just on the racial standpoint, or gender, but age and generations,” she added.
