Oh, and many, MANY thanks to all who served in Bomber Command during World War 2. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 May 2019. A good, relatively simple but powerful storyline and much better than I expected, especially having read what the budget was. It was cheap, and it looks cheap, but it's actually an enjoyable effort. Took a punt on Sky. The tension between the army and the RAF although supposedly on the same side was portrayed quite well. The hubby was so excited when he found out we could watch Lancaster Skies at his favourite cinema with his parents during a long weekend visit to Lincolnshire. I'm a retired RAF officer & all this unnecessary saluting without headress is so annoying. A mixed bag with a good subject, music and sound, but also some painfully slow pacing, stiff acting performances and far too little action. For a small cast and budget an amazing achievement. They can't even do the salute properly!! However, when the Germans start shooting at the Dambusters you could see people jumping in their seats. Lancaster Skies is different, having if you pardon the pun flown under the Rader for most part this small-incredibly small budget film (£80000) has excellent production values and tells the story of a single Bomber Command crew at the height of the war. But there’s still a good story here about a group of young men who were doing their best to ignore the horror of their situation and do the right, honorable thing, even when scared witless. The crew try halfheartedly to come together as a team while waiting for their plane to be repaired, and finally are assigned a bombing mission over Berlin: The Brits are bringing the war to Germany. Doggedly uncinematic and thinly stretched. The Merlin engines sounded fantastic at the cinema, and the story really conveys the desperation of the brave bomber crews, whose lives could end at the flip of a coin. As a result, it’s no surprise that it feels a lot like a stage play with very modest sets and almost all interior scenes. So much so that I am bound to ask were these professionals actors? Really enjoyed this film and will buy it on DVD. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. I thoroughly enjoyed this truly unexpected masterpiece. I really don't know what the whole point was. and the Terms and Policies, Great indie film, well worth a watch for £89k budget. He’s assigned to replace a recently killed skipper, becoming captain of a bomber crewed by a group of men who themselves are grieving the loss of their skipper and almost entirely uncommunicative. Obviously unpolished but very worth watching. Sweet tooth fans should check out my thoughts on R Place donuts. The characters are believable and show the true raw emotion nature of the crew flying a Lancaster into combat. I watched it through to the end. and to receive email from Rotten Tomatoes and Fandango. Convoluted story line and a bevy of bad actors. With Kris Saddler, Rosa Coduri, Josh Collins, David Dobson. Additionally, two officers of the same rank, neither of whom was wearing a hat were saluting each other. However, the characters and the story were so morose that I decided to watch another day. Just about tolerable if it was Amdram. I have no hesitation in recommend you see the film if like me you have a thirst for the genre. I would have given it ten stars but for the fact that people don't trust the ten star scorers! Many thanks to those involved who have created a movie masterpiece on a budget of less than £80,000. It would be interesting to see what they could do with a bigger budget. Dear writer/director: if you're going to do a film about the inner, psychological struggles of a pilot and the death of his brother you need to clue the audience in on what exactly he's going through in his head, we're not mind readers, this isn't a novel where you can spend ten pages on how the character feels insode, you need to show us how he's feeling, whats going on in his head. As a result, it’s no surprise that it feels a lot like a stage play with very modest sets and almost all interior scenes. Your bravery was - and remains - absolutely inspirational. Post was not sent - check your email addresses! Script was a bit hit and miss, can't argue, but I read this film was made for 80 thousand pounds so I'm giving leeway. You can still see all customer reviews for the product. In my opinion (and according to the post film Q&A's) the opinion of veterans it captures the mood of life and death on a Bomber base perfectly. No easy task because overall this was hugely disappointing. Unlike the wood varnish, Ronseal, this film doesn't do "exactly what it says on the tin" so to speak. Also wracked with guilt and completely emotionally shut down is rear gunner Moore (Kris Saddler), who froze up and stopped firing on the German fighter during that fateful mission. In fact, I don't think I have ever seen a military based film with quite so much saluting. | I was expecting less action, due to the small budget and more of a deep character study on the protagonist. Try again. (launched today I think) I saw it at the end of April in Melton having heard about it and seeing earlier reviews. External Reviews Many films including blockbusters like Dunkirk have dissapointed me especially after so much hype. Lancaster Skies is a classic shoestring budget movie, reportedly filmed for under $100,000. It's a great film produced on a tiny budget of 80K, pounds that is. Perhaps the British who lost about 55 000 of 125 000 airmen serving in the bombing raids on Germany, had some connection or respect for these men who died in defending their country, rated it much higher for this reason. Produced by a dedicated & hard working team on a tiny budget. Went to see this film at our local cinema in Woodhall Spa, primarily because it was filmed mostly in Lincolnshire. The number of 'one-offs' for this, all stating what a great 10/10 film this is, shows that more needs to be done to stop the rest of us wasting out time. Thanks. The jacket notes indicated an entertaining WW2 yarn, with some tension and excitement. I think this might be because in reality there was a lot of passing the time involved for those taking part in the fighting. Ambition and achievement are two entirely different things, and in this case the makers' reach has definitely exceeded their grasp. Here’s my review of A Star is Born don’t worry there’s no spoilers! Awards This simple mistake destroyed any sense of accuracy and the standard of acting was somewhat wooden. Was not expecting anything special due to the low budget but was very pleasantly surprised. Produced by a dedicated & hard working team on a tiny budget. I thoroughly enjoyed this truly unexpected masterpiece. Another Week Passes During the Pandemic. I enjoyed Lancaster Skies and it’s great to see a small budget film (£80,000) on the big screen. The short opening flying scene is unconvincing with obvious models of Lancasters used. Designer stubble is not appropriate for flight crew and officers would not have joined sergeants in their mess. This was said by the Bomber crews to be the most realistic movie about what it was like, ever made. […], […] Here’s my review of independent film Lancaster Skies […]. That was so over hyped it is untrue. It would be interesting to see what they could do with a bigger budget. Yes, if you look closely you can see some irregularities, and the action scenes are very few and far between. The storyline is good, the acting is excellent, there are some awesome shots of Lancasters and a bombing mission at the end of the film is so well done, it makes the question of what was it like wholly redundant.
